Teeth whitening is an effective and painless method of lightening the colour of tooth enamel, improving the appearance of stained yellow teeth and more deeply discoloured teeth. Our professional teeth whitening can remove discolouration both on the surface and within the structure of teeth.
At CDIC, we offer two types of teeth whitening treatment: a powerful in-chair whitening system using a strong light beam and take-home whitening & maintenance kits.
Dental whitening is most common when a patient has significant stains on their teeth that have been hard to remove through their regular cleaning, caused by food and drinks, smoking or injury. Teeth whitening can rapidly lighten your teeth by multiple shades, reversing discolouration and improving the appearance of your enamel.
Many patients will also opt to whiten their teeth if they have an event coming up, like a wedding or a birthday. In most cases, the effects of whitening will last anywhere from six months up to two years, but the longevity will depend on how well you look after your teeth and whether or not your frequently ingest highly coloured drinks and foods.
At an initial consultation, we assess your oral health and check for any underlying issues like cavities or gum disease, which may need to be treated before whitening. Once deemed suitable, a thorough cleaning of the tooth surface to remove plaque or debris is indicated to ensures the whitening treatment will be as effective as possible.
Prior to treatment, we add a protective barrier or shield your gums and soft tissues of the mouth protecting them from direct bleaching gel contact.
We use a strong bleaching gel containing hydrogen peroxide for whitening, applying it to your teeth and then using a special light to activate the gel. This accelerates the process, with treatment typically lasting between 45 minutes and an hour.
The gel is reapplied multiple times (3-4) in a single visit to achieve an improvement of multiple shades. We continually monitor your comfort throughout the appointment and ensure the gel is working effectively.
After your in-chair appointment, we can provide you a take-home whitening kit to help you maintain your results. These kits include custom-fitted trays and some whitening gel, which is placed in the trays and worn on your teeth.
Using the at-home whitening kit helps your teeth stay bright, though it is not as strong as professional in-chair whitening, and should be used as a complementary treatment.

Tooth discolouration occurs due to poor oral hygiene, frequent smoking, the consumption of certain foods and drinks, and the natural aging changes that occur within teeth. Over time, food items like coffee, tea, red wine, and soy sauce are known to cause tooth staining.
Initially, your teeth may feel more sensitive due to the bleaching agent used, though this is typically temporary and quick to subside. If you continue to experience sensitivity, please get in touch with us.
Teeth whitening results can last anywhere from six months to two years, depending on your oral hygiene practices and dietary habits. Looking after your teeth will help your results to last longer.
After teeth whitening, it’s important to stick to non-staining foods to maintain your results. Safe options include soft foods like mashed potatoes, eggs, pasta and yoghurt. To avoid staining, steer clear of coffee, tea, red wine, dark sodas, and foods like soy sauce and tomato sauce for at least 24-48 hours. Additionally, limit acidic foods like citrus fruits and avoid hard or crunchy foods that can be abrasive. Drinking plenty of water is also recommended to help rinse away any food particles and keep your mouth hydrated.
