Were you told about peri-implantitis before you had your dental implant?

Peri-implantitis is a common disease that can affect people with dental implants in the same way that bacteria in the mouth can cause ‘gum disease’ and lead to tooth loss.

At the Cosmetic Dental & Implant Centre, each and every one of our patients who commits to having dental implants, whether it be a single or a full mouth rehabilitation is counselled before their treatment as part of our Informed Consent Protocol about the possible biological and mechanical complications during and after successful implant treatment.

If you are thinking about having dental implants or you already have dental implants and don’t know about peri-implantitis, make sure you ask your dentist about this very difficult to treat disease.

Peri-implant disease is identified by gently probing around an implant with a soft plastic probe. If you have bleeding from the gum or pus draining (invisible in its early stage to the patient) you most likely have peri-implantitis.

We have been placing dental implants for over 15 years at the Cosmetic Dental & Implant Centre, so we do it right.  Our patients are instructed as to how best prevent these infection type complications and all patients are placed on a strict recall so that their implants can be monitored and early signs of disease identified and treated before they exacerbate.

Read this from “The Telegraph” in the UK about a woman who spent many thousands of pounds on her implants and is now suffering from peri-implantitis that may result in her losing her implant teeth.
