At the CDIC (Cosmetic Dental & Implant Centre) / Facelab Malvern, Dr Hillel New has been treating patients with jaw joint and muscle pain with muscle relaxing ‘anti-wrinkle injections’ for over a year now.

The results he says are amazing and his patient’s agree. One particular patient recently commented, “it was just like he said…..you will lose the last 20 percent of your bite force but it won’t affect eating….. what’s even better is that my jaw pain has almost disappeared and my jaw joint doesn’t click when I eat.”

After receiving special training with the American Academy of Facial Esthetics (AAFE) in Chicago (USA) last year (2015), Dr Hillel New has treated many patients who seemed to have struggled to find a solution or management strategy for their tooth grinding and clenching.

Dr New described this situation. “the cause of a lot of peoples jaw pain, ‘migraine type’ headaches, facial pain, and even some toothaches can be due to the over activity, spasm , or trigger points in the muscles that surround the face and jaws. What we do is carefully administer traditional anti-wrinkle medicament into certain positions in these muscles and about 10 to 14 days later, patients start to feel a difference.”

Dr New added, “the amazing thing we also find when treating tooth clenchers and grinders this way, is that those who also have Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) and snore, seem to have an improvement in their sleep patterns. There has been a lot of anecdotal reports about this and good evidence is emerging to support these treatments.”

“We have set up a separate entity within our practice that deals with patients who clench and grind their teeth as well as those who snore and have OSA.” “We have called it Facelab. For those patients also looking to have treatments to eliminate facial skin folds and wrinkles, we can also help.” Concludes Dr. Hillel New.
